The answer may have been that the OP shouldn't be entitled to a rebate. However, the reasons are certainly not right. They shouldn't but a house if they don't intend to live in it !

My neighbour bought the house as a holiday home. He lives in Madrid, he is Spanish and this is his second home. He comes a couple of times a year and rents out during the year. Should he also not buy what he wants with his money. If he can afford to buy, maintain and run a second property, then w...

...hy not ?

Oh and by the way. Look at the first post.....PENNY DIDN'T EVEN ASK THE QUESTION IN THE FIRST PLACE !

SO MAYBE SHE DESERVES AN APOLOGY

Are you the forum police or something !!

I'll answer how I like and I don't need you to direct my thoughts.!!

You see it how YOU like.....I'll see it MY way !!!!

I've my own thoughts on life and won't be dictated by YOU!!!

Thanks. I couldn’t be bothered to correct Tam so glad you put the record straight

Penny no offense........But he hasn't put the record straight with me.

I still don't agree on second homes in any shape or form.

Perhaps you could explain, what difference does it make if someone owns 1,2 or 10 properties. It is of no concern of anyone else.

I think your mistake is how you define these properties. 2nd home has a different effect on a person's viewpoint than holiday home. The latter implies 2 or 3 weeks occupation a year. The former can be just under 6 months at present - a totally different feel to the same meaning.  Also, members of the same family may be using also meaning it COULD be occupied for the full 12 months. Often in the UK properties are unoccupied for 8 to 12 hours a day as the person/s might be working. There are many variables.

Tam, you're entitled to your opinion as is everyone else but........

I've worked hard all my life as has my wife. Never claimed a benefit, always had a job.

Don't label us as greedy because we've decided to spend the money we've earned on a holiday home.

We've not preventing anyone owning a home, there's loads for sale. We've not profiteered either.

Sorry you feel that way Tam. I can spend my money on investments for mine, my wife's and my sons future (that's not greed), or I can squander my money on things and get no return. I can put it into a bank and spend it slowly til there is nothing left, then I would have to return to the UK and claim off the state. I had my own business before taking early retirement at 55 and if I worked on your principles I wouldn't be in the situation I am now. I could have stayed in the UK and worked til retirement at 67 but would rater enjoy the time I have. Maybe no-one should own a home, or any material things, and we should all rent off councils who are supposed to be non profit. Maybe we should all live in a communist country where we all have the same and all dress the same in grey sack cloth. Then only the top few will have all the asserts and depress any aspirations of the common man !

Oh by the way, I have 3 cars too.....no doubt that's greed to in your eyes, but I enjoy cars and 1 is a classic (worth quite a lot of money) that I have owned for 16 years.

Completely agree Craig.. Worked hard for a long time. Now to reap the rewards of that hard work.
