Not over till May but understand BBC1 SD has stopped transmitting and only HD versions available now. I'm bringing over a Humax  HDR-1100S box with me to replace an old Sky box I had there wired to a 1.4 dish. With internet being a bit flakey where I am I like to use the dish to record certain programmes when out. Are any variations of BBC1 or 2 available by that size dish in my area? Dish was fitted by AA English TV a few years ago and has been great (shared by me and my elderly neighbour).

Many thanks,

The Sat and PC Guy

BBC are still transmitting channels in SD, but with no local news, until March 2024.

On another thread on here, someone mentioned that some "1.4"m dishes in some areas of Costa Blanca South are now struggling with many frequencies used for BBC HD channels, meaning their dishes were on the limit before, and now perhaps beyond the limit.

If you got BBC News HD before, you should get some BBC HD channels (BBC One Wales, Scotland and West Midland), as that BBC HD frequency is still being used. If you did not get BBC News HD before, then you may struggle to get any other BBC HD channels.

Thanks for that info.

Here in the UK my SD BBC1 (channel 101 on a Sky box) has been replaced by BBC1 HD and channel 115 that used to be BBC1 HD is now BBC3.

UPDATE: BBC1 and BBC2 can still be found on a Sky box at channels 801 and 802 respectively.

Same for all Sky HD boxes, 101 is now BBC One (region) HD..with the old BBC One (no regions) on 115 now BBC Three HD.

And SD swaps in the 800s, but the BBC SD swaps, with no regions, is (currently), on a very weak signal.

On Freesat HDs, 101 is now also BBC One (region) HD..with the old BBC One (no regions) on 106 closed.

And unlike SkyHD there are NO SD "swaps" on Freesat HD boxes.

does this mean that there will be no BBC1 and 2 SD available on Humax box even till March 2024 and they will only be accessible via my old Sky HD+ box?

On a Freesat HD box, no matter who makes it, 101 is BBC One (region) HD, with no SD version available at all on the EPG.

Just like it is for ITV2 HD, ITV3HD and ITV4HD, no SD versions on the Freesat EPG, but they are still transmitting (as you can see from in the 800s on a Sky HD box, but suggestions that they may follow suit and close SDs soon)

But you can, if your dish is good enough and the right size, add the SD channels (until March 2024 for BBCs), in non freesat mode.

Very helpful thanks.

Can I ask how you add any BBC SD channels manually to the Humax box please. What settings are required etc.

Much appreciated.

The SD BBCs are on 12422 H DVB-S SR 27500 FEC 2/3

And in the last few days they have appeared and are duplicated on 10803 H DVB-S SR 22000 FEC 5/6 (which should be easier to get that the 12422 frequency)

No idea which of these two will be a permanent frequency.

On a Freesat 1100S, Settings, STB Mode, Non Freesat mode (since you need to scan off the Freesat service), non freesat channel search, look for the frequencies, search, and save.

And remember to put the box back into Freesat mode to use Freesat guide again

That's really helpful.
