Can anybody please give me any imformation on tarjeta bus pass.I seen them been used on the bus down to la Zenia and have a few question if anybody can help me

Can you buy one on any bus?

How much do you have to upload on them ?

And finally do you get any discount on the usual 1.55 euro fare

Hi Richard

You can buy them on any avanza bus (they cover the villamartin area). The first purchase will cost €22 and give the driver the exact money and ask for tarjeta. The card itself costs €2 and it’s then loaded with the €20. Each journey will then cost 60 cents instead of €1.55 and you can pay for as many people as you want on any journey. Each ticket will tell you remaining balance and you can top up again on bus (I’m not sure if it’s minimum €5 or €10 but will be doing it this week and will let you know).

It gives subsidised rates on all Avanza journeys (from torrevieja to airport is only €3.20)

(I’m probably one of the people you’ve seen use it lol)

thank you Deirdre for you reply Does this card mean you only pay 60 cents for the fare or do you pay 60 cent cash and the balance on the card

No

You put the card in the machine each time you get on and it deducts 60 ce st from the balance -no need anymore for cash!

Thanks for that information Deirdre. Does that mean if I fly into the airport I can buy a card and then use the card to reduce my bus fare there and then straight away? Cheers, Peter

Yes there should be no reason you can’t do that-I would say have the €22 ready and show him a picture of the card so he knows exactly what you want.

Hi can anyone advise please whether I must rent a car if I stay at Montebello, or are there buses, going to  for instance La Mata, Alicante, Rojales, Algorfa, Beniofar, Los Montesinos, Santa Pola, Alter, Elche, Cartagena?

Many thanks for any local knowledge forthcoming!

The bus service is very lacking with almost no service in your interested area. As an addendum, at this time of year taxis are extremely hard to find  hard to find also or even to book. My experience is that in the Guardemar/La Mata/Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa/Quesada/Rojales areas, you need a car.

If you use this site as a reference, it can be useful. Input Montebello as your start point, and input your destination, and it will show options and general price and you can then click into bus routes and timetables,
