We travelled by road as we have the dog with us, we sailed into Caen, we were advised to have a test before coming so we did. We were never asked for any results and we drove 18 hours to get here with 2 hotel stops.

Well Lynn looks like you got back in time ,as many countries now putting UK on sick list and no travel from UK ,I'm surprised if anyone in UK knows what's happening  as things changing daily ,never seen so many clowns leading countries ,4 home nations being led by the blind ,ps no offence meant to blind people

Just heard on Sky News that France has now closed its borders to the UK, including ferry ports and suspension of Eurostar services.  Spain also "considering" suspension of inbound flights from the UK.  I'm keeping an eye on Gov.uk and will post again when I see this confirmed officially.

Kind regards,

Kim

John, please clarify what you meant by being led by the blind.   This new strain of coronavirus is capable of being spread at a much greater rate. You clearly think that the government have over reacted. I commend them for implementing this lockdown and particularly now when Christmas is almost upon us. The virus is a KILLER.. not everyone but some will die and that’s too many. I dislike the rules changing BUT should it be that only the two if us can celebrate Christmas, I shall rejoice in the fact that we are safe and alive as are our children and their families. We can all celebrate and party when this eventually ends.  This is a war... Covid 19 v’s the world.  We need to win.

And now Spain is only accepting the arrival of Spanish Nationals and Spanish residents:

Okay.what precisely would you do if in their place?  The goalposts are being moved every turn around. This new strain is creating the big problem. Would you simply ignore the spike in numbers and open the bars, let everyone party and sweep up the dead?  I’m keen to hear what you would do in order to sort this pandemic out.

I would start by making mask wearing mandatory in all UK public spaces.

When I see news reports from the UK loads of people not wearing them. It's  very obvious that there is a big proportion of the public that don't want to take it seriously.

So there's one simple thing that could be done, but Johnson doesn't like to be seen as unpopular. (It's called firm leadership)

I would also have created an effective test trace and isolate regime under public health management, not private enterprise with contracts and jobs given to mates. 40-50% success rate on T and T is unacceptable.

So two things there.

Ok.  I would go along with mandatory mask wearing.  It strikes me that most people here know the score but refuse to hear it. As you know, GeneralFranco’s Guardia Civil don’t take prisoners. We aren’t dictated to over here as you know. Don’t blame Boris, blame the people who will not conform. There are none so blind as those who will not see.  Ok. Another thing you would do..

Ah the General Franco card comes out.

Died in 1975 some 45 years ago but resurrected by those who wish to criticise Spain.

Britain could learn a lot from Spain but would find it beneath them to do so. There lies the secret of why Britain is going backwards - it thinks it has a 'World beating everything" but the reality is very different.
