Of course they could also offer them to the EU in exchange for stopping the pettiness holding up exports to and from the EU. They would also use it to sweeten the EU into agreeing compatability for UK banks in the EU. I find it troubling that the EU have granted this to American banks but not tho...

This from an article in the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/10/gp-england-drop-common-cold-flu-cases-coronavirus-restrictions.

"During December, rates of common cold symptoms reported to GPs were 0.3-1.2 per 100,000 persons, while for influenza-like illness this was 0.5-1.3 per 100,000 persons – well below the five-year avera...

...ge for this time of year. The incidence of other common infections including intestinal disease, strep sore throat and inner ear infections (often linked to respiratory illness) is also well below the five-year average, and may similarly reflect increased hand hygiene and decreased social mixing".

Interesting in that it may highlight a lack of personal hygiene in the general populace contributes significantly to one of the major causes of winter illnesses in the UK. I don't know how the flu impacts on other countries however.

Much more likely that everything is being put down as covid now. It will come out in the wash but I'm surprised more is not made of the sudden reduction in death for any other disease.

Dinnerout nothing of the sort. Look back there have been instances of others suggesting that the supply of vaccines could be used to further diplomatic ideals. I have suggested two more. There is nothing them and us about it. If the EU countries and others accept the offer of an effective vaccine from richer countries or governments would they not be expecting strings to be attached. Dinnerout its called business. All you have to do is look at the deals which the Chinese government has implemented in Africa and South America. It could be suggested that you are determined to see them and us in every comment advanced on this forum. (I don't believe so)

Updated numbers of those vaccinated in Spain

2.320.507 total vaccinations

943.278 second doses completed

Just to add, it compares badly with UK progress, but it IS consistently ticking up.

The UK is doing well with the jabs, and it has ordered/optioned around 3 times more vaccine than it needs (while others have insufficient).

It will be interesting to see where all those surplus jabs end up, and at what price.

Hopefully sell them to recoup costs

Dinnerout this is good news for every country as all are dependent on all countries being free of the virus so that inter-country trade and travel can commence.

Here's a little update from el Pais about the vaccination program progress, looks like things will speed up towards summer as more vaccines get authorisation.

The UK has stated that any vaccines left over will be given to poorer countries. And I think the Uk has hit the 15 million mark now.

Just seen the news its now 17 million vaccines been given.
