Hi Folks I am looking for advice I am thinking of bringing my car to my holiday home on the Costa Blanca and leaving it in Spain to use when I am out on holiday

What do I need to do?

Hi, not sure you can do that, if its out of the UK for 6 months it must be declared plus i believe Spain have rules regards how long a UK car can be in Spain without re-registering which is quite expensive.

Have you thought about the problems of getting the MOT, insurance and tax etc. You will be required to put Spanish plates on it.

Your UK registered car will need to be "street legal" at all times while in Spain. If stopped you may need proof that you're non resident (ferry tickets, stamp in passport)

Your car will need to be taxed while in Spain. No SORN as the police can & will check.

You'll need insurance valid for long term use in Spain. There are Spanish insurance brokers that may be able to insure your car (Linea Directa & Liberty Seguros)..... I'm not sure whether they still can after Brexit, you'll have to enquire.

Your UK vehicle will need to return to the UK at least once a year. Either for it's MOT or to ensure that the DVLA don't deem the vehicle to be exported (https://www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk)

You'll need a UK sticker on your car and you'll need to carry your V5 (original, not a copy), insurance documents, driving licence and spare glasses (if required). See https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/country/spain/ for more info'

TBH It would be a lot easier to buy a cheap Spanish car. The steering wheel would be on the correct side of the car and you would save the time/expense of driving to/from the UK
