    if you are a regular reader of this forum you will have sees that Goldcar complaints are fairly common. Hopefully by now everyone should know their reputation.

I cannot believe anyone still rents from this con firm as the reviews are very poor and have been for years 

Well I have rented from them throughout this year with no problem all from Murcia as the choices are limited but the one mentioned was from Alicante.

Any suggestions then for another hire company?

Hi, I have not hired cars for some years in Alicante as I now own a car that I park at the airport. 

You'll have a better chance of getting  recommendations if you start a separate post and ask for car hire suggestions.

I am in the process of getting a refund from Goldcar so will let you know how it goes.

I often hire from Alicante Airport with OK mobility car hire. You tend to get pretty new cars and there isn’t too much hard sell to buy their expensive fully comp insurance. I am a member of their loyalty club and get email updates when they have special offers. Like most (not all),  car hire at Airports you need to go round the car fully when you pick up, (preferably with a torch or phone light) to check for any damage, including inside.  if you spot damage , or scratches including the alloy wheels, take photos BEFORE you leave the car park. It’s a bit arduous but that 5-10 minutes will help you avoid any attempts to try and charge you for any existing damage. Several car firms have tried it on, but when I have shown them date stamped photos they give in any attempt to claim. 
Finally if you are a frequent visitor buy the car hire excess insurance in the UK online, only about £40 for the year, and they do pay out if you have a genuine claim. 😎 

They are a truly awful company.  Ive had the misfortune to have deal with them in the past.

Do you Spain is by far the best website to hire from,on a personal basis we’ve never had an issue with them, straight forward and very helpful.

Get excess insurance from an independent insurance company though,way cheaper than anything the rental companies offer.
