Hiring or buying a car

I'd have a word with a local hire company & see if they will do you a deal on a 3 month rental, assuming you're coming over for 3 months in a block. 

I'll try to explain my thinking: 

I hired a car locally for a family member who came over for two weeks, from memory the cost was close to €275, so for arguments sake €140 a week, €140 x 12 weeks is €1740. If you can work a deal for 3 months it should come down.

Cars here are very expensive, so you'd have to buy the car, pay suma, insurance, ITV, servicing & repairs. 

Conservatively €4k for a car, €60 for suma, €45 for ITV, €300 ish for insurance, €100 for servicing. So taking the purchase price & subsequent depreciation out of the equation it would cost around €500 a year for you to just own the car, without having to do any repairs & if you want to park it at the airport there is the cost of that to factor in too. A lot of hire companies would pick you up & drop you back at the airport too.

Having a car sat around for that length of time will do it no good at all.

Hi we hire a car from Victoria Car hire for 3 months Dec/March. We pay 100 euros a week including insurance for over 70 yrs so that's 1,200 euros in total. We are picked up from airport and returned at end of hire period all very quick and organised. Hope this gives you an idea of costs to compare both options.
