Brexit has already taken place.

After 1st January 2021 the UK will be classed as a third country and you might find it much more difficult indeed to comply with all the necessary requirements to gain residency. As a couple you will need to prove that you have enough income to satisfy the authorities you won't become a burden on the state. For instance you would need to prove that you have in income of €32,000 per year.

I recommend you rent somewhere for the first year to make sure you have chosen the right area.

Look at Jim's Guides that can be found in drop down menu on the left side of this page . The guides have all the information you need to know about living here legally.

Hubby and I were in similar situation to you when we bought and moved here a year ago. As per the others would say is better to do it before the end of this Brexit transition period (December). Your husband should be able to get an S1 and you will be covered on this too (as I was). You should be able to get an NIE and padron once you've completed your house purchase, and residency and healthcare with this and the S1s afterwards - it's quite a process! Unless it's changed within the last year, we only had to prove there would be an adequate and regular pension(s) coming in - can't remember the exact figure, but definitely not as much as €32,000. Jim's guide will probably be more extensive. Best of luck, and go for it! If you'd like any info on areas will be happy to help. Marianna

You need to be intending to live her for 6+ months to do Residenia/new TIE.  Read Jim's Guides (tab link at the top of this website) and understand the requirements for this).  YOu can do a long term rental - you don't need to buy to do TIE.  Wherever you choose to rent just check with the local town hall what they need for Padron (for us it was 3+month rental contract), you need temp Padron to do residencia, health cover either SIP or private health care, enough funds, valid passports).

good luck

The uk government voted in favour of no freedom of movement on the 2nd of July, so the decision has already been made! That’s why Spain brought in the new TIE on the 6 July.
