Maybe a bit late for this comment but we bought in January 2016 outright.
There was no way we would spend £200k without a professional survey and we used Bioarquitectura. Cost was about 435 Euro for a Full Structural Survey with the report in English.

We’re the same buying outright £300000 I think it would be insane not to have a survey done at least if something goes wrong you’ve got some kind of recourse
Seems like we’re in the minority thinking this way?

The estate agent selling the house was neither surprised nor obstructive. Our survey was written into our purchase contract. We had the option to recover our deposit in the event of an adverse survey report.
Not all houses have single skin construction. Some single skin structures suffer from condensation.
If you feel uncomfortable without a survey, insist on one.
