Finding a GP Local Doctor

Are you registered for Spanish healthcare and have a SIP card? If so, it will allocate a GP and a practice to you. You can only get this if you are a registered resident and are on the local padron. 

You can get a S1 form from your home country which transfers your healthcare to the Spanish system and your home country pays for the treatment. This can be obtained if you are over pensionable age in your home country or registered disabled and a couple of other reasons.

If not, you need to see a private GP but you don't register with them, simply see them and use your private insurance each time you go.  Dr Garcia practice in the Villamartin Plaza was the place to go when I lived in the area but that was a long time ago.

You can also get most medication over the counter in Spain and a lot of the stuff is cheaper than elsewhere. If prescription only, you can show your repeat prescription to a pharmacy and they will issue it to you at cost.

Have you moved to Spain with a Non Lucrative Visa?  If so, and assuming that you're in receipt of the UK State Pension, presumably you requested Form S1 from the NHSBSA Overseas Healthcare Team?

Once received, you will need to take it to your local INSS (Social Security) office, who will register it and exchange it for a letter that you then need to take to your Centro de Salud (Health Centre), where you will be allocated a GP.  If the GP does not speak English, you will need to take an interpreter with you to your appointments.

Members in your area may be able to recommend specific GPs, but it depends on the health centre how much influence you will have, or not, over which GP you're allocated.

it depends exactly where you are in Villamartin. Some of Villamartin comes under the medical centre in San Miguel and most under the medical centre at Cabo Roig. The dividing line is “roughly” the road “Calle el Escorial -the road going up the hill facing captain Morgan’s)
