Villamartin is a sprawling housing estate set on a very hilly area. It has no bus services going through the estates and has minimal community areas except the Plaza ( which is a nice place). If you suffer with any mobility issues it will be advisable to look elsewhere.

I agree with tebo53/Steve

As a woman on your own, you would be much better off just 2/3 Kms away, nearer to the coast. Large parts of Villamartin are pretty dead in the winter months, whereas the coastal area is active all year round.

In normal times, there are keep fit sessions in both Playa Flamenca and La Zenia, and lots of other places as well. There are also plenty of shops etc.

In Villamartin you will probably need transport to get to similar facilities.

Hope this helps!

Steve

Thanks for your advice. Can you please suggest areas that I can go and have at houses where there will be plenty of things to do. What would you think of lá zenia or even lá florida? Any advice and information would be very much appreciated.

                    Many thanks

Hi Susan

I haven't got all the answers - nobody does, it depends on individual circumstances.

Transport is quite a big question.

Public transport around Villamartin, LA Zenia, Cabo Roig, La Florida nd Playa Flamenca is a pain. If you think you can easily get to Torrevieja - forget it!

Having said that, we hardly ever go to Torrevieja, no reason to!

All of the above areas are lovely in their own way, but it depends what you want.

Say a little more about what you want and I'll be happy to comment, as will others

Cheers

Steve

I want access to activities during the day. Whether it's art classes keep fit and with a good community. I am a young at heart 60 year old woman. I'm also considering Playa flamenca

I would think that it is worth considering Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, La Florida (often included in Playa Flamenca for property searches), parts of Cabo Roig and maybe Los Altos and Punta Prima. They are closer to the beaches where things happen a year round and there is a good residential population and second home owners. Things mainly stay open all year round, you have plenty of amenitiesand you have Zenia Boulevard as a hub too.  What public transport there is tends to be focused on, or close to, the N332 coast road. Different types of keep fit classes around, some on the beach! Lots of clubs and associations so bound to be one that suits your interests. And a number of charities you can volunteer with as well.

Hi Susan,

There is a world wide activity group called the U3A and Torrevieja has a branch. They do all types of activities and outings.  Have a look at their website:

Hi, I am on my own and have a place in la Florida. I have made lots of friends there and there everything is open and normally quite busy all year round, it is also within walking distance of the beach and playa flamenca. Although I don’t actually live there I do think you would be better there or in that area rather than villaMartin. I have been to villamartin lots of times and agree with the guys.
