I am in the process of buying an apartment in villamartin

Due to this new omnicron virus is it worth me going ahead? I know I will lose my deposit but the way things are going I might not even be able to come to Spain to enjoy my purchase.

Everything is so confusing at the moment I am very unsure about what to do.

Any comments would be app

To be honest we find Spain really safe concerning Covid. Our local pub and restaurant have strict policies on mask wearing. Most of the people walking around the Zenia Boulevard wear their masks and all the shops have mask wearing enforcement. We are due to go to our home in Scotland in a few weeks time, we will book a PCR test before we fly of course and off we go. We will return in February if there are no travel restrictions and personally I think life must go on.

No one knows at present if any further travel restrictions will be put in place other than the ones already announced.

The booster roll out here in Spain seems to be glacial which may or may not have an impact on our ability to travel. It looks like further restrictions on entry to bars and restaurants will be in place by the end of this week.

One thing to consider, your property maybe left unoccupied for long periods of time if travel is restricted again and unless you apply for residency you are limited to 90 days, so you may want to consider if a key holding service is an expense you are prepared fund in addition to electric, suma, water, community charges for a property you may not be able to use for long periods of time. It's not an easy decision.

Seems to me you’ve got a dose of buyers remorse. You can always think of a reason to not continue with your purchase. Are the reasons you wanted to buy the same?Remember you can always sell on but that is expensive. If you’re really not sure walk away and just say goodbye to your deposit and carry on with your normal life.

Fantastic reply from someone who has more experience in life in Spain than me. I was in the same situation as Pix Elated stated in the latter part of the informative reply. We bought our property a month before this horrible illness surfaced. We couldn’t return to our property until 18 months later. We got a key holder, paid all the bills and we knew about the 90 day rule of course. Truthfully, we don’t regret buying one bit and when the sun is out in this beautiful country for us personally there is no better.

Hi Pix Elated

Thank you for you input

Could I ask how much does it cost to do what you suggest

ie- having a key holder  and paying any bills if you could give me a rough idea

Thanks

Buying a property is a long-term investment and covid will become part of our lives in time, the vaccinated probably able to travel more freely than the unvaccinated.  Who knows what rules, if any, will be in place this time next year.  However my thoughts would be to think about your reasons for buying in the first place, if those reasons are still valid then why not proceed?  If your situation has changed then have a re-think.  There will always be properties for sale but prices are rising and will you find what you want for your budget in a couple of years time?  Keyholder costs are around €250 a year, but the exact price will depend on the frequency of the checks, usually have the option of weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Well we have decided to go ahead I think as you say in the long run do it now because as you say covid is here and not going away

I think a key holder is a good idea and will look into that I have waited along time to do this and as you say prices will only rise in the future

Hi Janice, this is not advice just a genuine comment regarding your dilemma, you have made the correct decision!. We have been paying water bills, electricity bills, home insurance, direct debits, non residents tax and then some,  for our property which we have not been able to visit as regularly as we had planned to do. We still do not regret it and would do the same again. At least the wife would !

If you need a recommendation for a key holder give me a shout. Like you, I am a UK non resident.
