Hello everyone. We've been here now for 6 weeks. We have our S 1's but when trying to fill in the online form for registration  it seems we don't  have a residency certificate.  We bought our house  last week and have a digital copy of title deeds. How can we get the necessary cert. Our lawyer is pursuing our nlv applications but has been at it for an age, he is frustratingly slow.

Both my wife and I are on medication and need to get this sorted asap. Any help very gratefully received. Thank you.

SIP cards are issued to residents in Spain and a valid residency card must be submitted along with the application. Until you have been accepted for residency you have to have private medical insurance.

It can take a long time for an NLV to be issued and you have to apply for this in your home country and physically be there to attend the interview. You can now use the S1 to prove healthcare for the purposes of gaining an NLV but you cannot obtain a SIP card until your residency has been certified. The NLV does not give you residency, it simply allows you to come to Spain to apply for residency in the province in which you are going to live. This has to be done within 3 months and 1 week of arrival in Spain.

I have a feeling you are going around this in the wrong way and should have got the NLV first, then the residency and then the SIP.

If you already have an NLV then you can apply for residency using the S1 as proof of state provided medical cover. Once that has all been arranged then you can submit your S1 to the INSS for the issuance of a SIP card.

That's  a really good question!  We have used the same lawyer for our house purchase and for our NLV's. We started the visa applications in July and we are still  waiting.  The house went through last week. I've  been told today that the visa process has recently  changed, so a bit of divine intervention would come in handy.

"Devine intervention" doesnt work in Spain..... Assuming that you're UK passport holders, as a lot of Irish/EU passport holders don't understand the significance, so don't bother to inform us on this forum.

Have you got your NLV in hand?

Did you apply to your nearest Spanish consulate in the UK? Everything good with them?

Are you both eligible for the S1? Or are you under state retirement age? Please be aware that you will pay full cost for prescriptions until you fill out your full resident tax forms.

Change your lawyer for a gestor, far cheaper and gets things done quickly because he dosen't get paid until it's sorted.

Best of luck.

If you're Non-Lucrative Visa (NLV) has not yet been approved you will not be able to register forms S1. By buying a home in Spain does not entitle anyone to automatic residence. Once your NLV has been approved and issued and you are in Spain, you need to apply for a residence permit  You must go to the Registro Central de Extranjeros. This is usually carried out at the local national police station (“Policia Nacional”). They will issue you with a registration certificate.  As already mentioned in several other responses a NLV has to be submitted in person to a Spanish Consulate in your home country and presumably in your case this would be the UK.
