For the last few years I have been insuring my holiday home, a 2 bed townhouse in Villamartin on the Valencias urb, with a company called Intasure based in the UK as I decided it would be easier to sort any issues out if it were a UK based company. I do not rent this home out and visit, under nor...

...mal circumstances, around 6 times a year for around 8 weeks total.

My latest renewal has just come in at £260 ( around €300 as a one off payment). That seems quite high to me and just wonder if anyone can recommend a UK based company that I could get a competitive quote from? Or it may well be that this is a competitive price? My insurance includes all admin charges, £5,500 of contents and legal cover.

Many thanks for any advice.

We also insure with Intasure and have for the past few years - May be worth checking the cover you have to ensure you are only paying for what you need, as they do offer quite a comprehensive set of extras eg paying for you to fly out to check the property if there is an issue etc.

we felt we valued having a U.K. company to deal with, peace of mind etc. our last quote was similar to yours but for a 2 bed apartment, with £20k contents.

Hi, we are with Towergate (part of Staysure group) and have been for 13 years direct with Staysure before Brexit but last renewal Staysure said they were no longer dealing with foreign homes insurance and passed us onto Towergate. We were insured in 2006 with Caixa banks insurance on purchasing property but in 2008 had a total ransacking of the property which they refused to pay out on. We lost around £20k value(5 bed home in Campo, 2 fully equipped kitchens, all new appliances and according to the transport companies paperwork was 4.5ton of belongings. Won't draw this long story out but insurer Caixa refused payout as we hadn't told them we would be having work done on our land by Renfe for AV train and we did lose some land and a fence. They stated we should have told them as they wouldn't have insured us had they known as we would have been considered as "more vulnerable". We didn't know about the train, solicitor hadn't told us in searches and after battling Caixa for 3 years we gave up.

So I vowed never to insure with a Spanish insurer again and Uk insurance is subject to a lot more stringent clauses and abides by English law, apparrantly much stronger than Spanish law. Since 2010, have had a 3000€ claim for halestorm damage to rooves Inc new solarium in 2015, and a few years ago our wirelink fence was damaged causing 1800€ claim. Both claims sorted prompt and neither claim was handled badly. As non residents our insurance premium is around £260 too but I just have more confidence the company will handle any claim better than a Spanish company.

Regards

Pauline

I’ve just started a policy with Linea Directa  all in English, English speaking offer of €134.34 and promotion of I think it was 49% refund once policy started so roughly €67 for the year and a good policy no excesses.

Definately worth a call.

Hi,

My home insurance is with Sabadell. The cost is 109euros for the year. I have a 3 bedroom house in Quesada. Never had to claim so can’t advise you on payouts. I am quite surprised with the cost as Sabadell like to rip you off on other ways lol

Hi Tony,

In case this helps you, here’s my insurance recommendation! It is a digital insurance, LUKO, so even if you are in the UK you can ensure your Holliday house easily because everything’s managed digitally.

Their quote is highly competitive (you can check the exact price that you’ll pay on the website in 2 min, for me it was very economic in relation to the coverages) and it’s not binding, so you can cancel when you want to.

Hope this was useful

many thanks Jeannn

i have taken out insurance now (as mine ended on the 18th Jan) with Iberian as recommended by someone further up this post. Was happy with the quote of €171 as had been quoted around €100 more by my UK based existing insurer.
