Hi Julierun57,
Not knowing your specific system it’s difficult to be 100% sure but...
The alarm cannot sound without a power supply either via the mains or battery.
I think that you will find that the battery in your burglar alarm is doing it’s job!
It’s there to provide power in the event of someone tampering / cutting with the power supply. If this occurs the alarm will sound as in the case of an actual power outage.
The alarm should be automatically silenced when power is restored and/or the alarm panel is manually reset.
Hope this helps.
Bill

My neighbour has an alarm which sounds when there is a power cut. She would like to disconnect the alarm but has no idea how to do this. It was installed by the previous owners. Any advice?

There should be a control panel associated with the alarm and on the front panel there should be a reset button - some systems require a ‘code’ to be entered as well. This should silence the alarm.
If you really don’t want the alarm going off when there is a power outage then you can just remove the battery but that defeats one important function of the alarm system.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. She would really like to totally disconnect the alarm. Alarms can be a problem going off in the middle of the night due to power cuts etc. It’s not easy to see how to do this. By the way, we can’t even see where the battery compartment is!
Hi
If the battery is "knackered" your alarm will sound in the event of a mains failure. There are usually two backup batteries........one in the mains panel and one in the bell box.
The same was happening to my alarm. I needed one quite quickly as was flying back to the UK. After trying a lot of places I ended up getting one from Leroy Merlin in Elche.
Take the old one with you.
Good luck.

Hi
The bell box one is usually in the external box where the siren is as a backup for that and its usually built into the internal workings. I doubt very much that it will be nothing like the one you have identified in the picture.
Its there in case someone cuts all the wires so it will still sound. Just another level of security really.
Hope this helps.
