Hi I was interested to learn that in Spain there are more new rules it seems especially in benidorm, eg smoking bans on beach or outside, no drinking alcohol on beach, no going topless outside, there seems to be more rules and threat of more fines is this for everyone or just British , also there is complaints about tourists owning property where Spanish people are getting evicted by their private landlords, what's your opinion thank you.

Firstly this has been mentioned a few times. Yes, they are clamping down on anti social behaviour.

Secondly, why would it only apply to the British? Are the Brits the only ones who misbehave and do these things? No, it applies to everyone of course. Go to Mallorca and see how badly the Germans are behaved in their enclaves.

Ref the people not being happy about too many tourists, again this has been talked about but I, for one, haven't seen it in our areas. The islands are having lots of protests and so is Barcelona but not heard any around here. If the foreign visitors around here stopped coming there would be many ghost towns around and the Spanish, I believe, recognise that.

The non smoking and no alcohol on the beach rules are not "new" they were brought in several years ago. The beach, at one time here in Benidorm had virtually more fag ends than sand. Fag ends that don't disintegrate would be there for many, many years which when washed into the sea causes wildlife to suffer. Alcohol ban to stem the beach parties continuing. This is not just aimed at brits.

Topless is ok on the beach but not along the prom, t-shirts have always been required inside supermarkets etc, etc, etc.

Nothing new but being rehashed by UK newspapers who have nothing else to report.

Especially when those said newspapers say "New rules affect British tourists" or "Locals angry at British tourists" or even "British expats affected by new visa rules" as if they don't actually apply to anyone else.

When my late husband and I visited Mallorca in the mid 60's no-one was allowed to leave the beach if wearing just beach wear, you had to cover up.   If you didn't then there were invariably some armed Guardia Civil officers by the beach wall ready to detain anyone not following the rules.

Probably where the UK press pick up their stories, which then then reprint as click-bait on-line, seems to work well for them.

Spain is just one of many countries, the UK included, where anti-tourist attitudes are growing, mainly due to overtourism.

Rgds,

Aitch.

When the tourists go elsewhere because they feel unwelcome, so will jobs, bars, shops and restaurants will close down as many do in the off season's. There's only one real economy in the Canary's and that is tourism. The Councils want tourists as that is how they get their money from business's. Big business builds apartments, Hotels etc. The councils could do more for local people, but they need money, and low rents from locals are not sufficient. In any case property in Spain property has to have tourist licenses from the Council if they are rented out, another income for Councils. The locals should take their angst to the Councils and don't blame the tourists, who bring lots of money to the economy.

In the authorities hands.
