I am resident in the UK and have a Bankia current account in San Miguel de Salinas. For some reason my online access was blocked in December 2020 and am told I can only unblock it by personally visiting my San Miguel branch. Given current Covid travel restrictions it will be impossible for me to do this for at least another four or five months. It must surely be possible to unblock an account without physically going to the branch office to do so. I have spoken to and sent emails to my Bankia branch and recently sent a detailed explanatory letter (in Spanish) to both Bankia San Miguel and Bankia A.S in Valencia. So far I have had no response. I obviously need to know from time to time the current state of my account balance. Can anyone please give advice?

I have the same problem and no one at bankia can me give any reason for this. Apparemtly, in the past somebody tried to get access to my account, no way to find out if that's true. What you can do: call Bankia +0034 916 024 670 and have your mobile phone ready. You will recieve a message with a 6 digit code which you have to confirm over the phone. Then your account will be unblocked for the moment.

I think you will find that it is blocked because they need to check your identity, this happens every couple of years for non-residents. They will want you to go in and sign confirmation.

You will also find your debit card is blocked too.

Unfortunately they are very difficult to contact right now. If you could get online they would be ignoring on line help requests too!

Thanks for summarising the situation. So I shall be unable to know even my account balance until I eventually get back to Spain! Most unsatisfactory.

Same problem with Santander. The reason is that every 2 years banks need to check on who you say you are (EU banking laws).

You will need to show your P60, to prove you have paid UK  tax ; your Spanish form 210 to show you have paid your non-resident  tax and your passport. If you have given power of attorney to your Spanish lawyer they could do it (mine charges 60 euros) you can send them copies of above. Not certain if a gestoria can do it (?).
