Advice on deposit on a rental property

Not sure what you are asking here.
Regarding all deposits, renting or buying. The unwritten rule of law in Spain is that whoever has the money in their pocket owns it. So be very careful before you part with anything, because you will never get it back.

Sorry didnt make myself clear, i have been offered a job so need to rent a property so not sure if its a months rent plus a deposit needed or if its different in spain thanks

No exact rule, they can just make it up but consider any deposit as a gift.

The deposit is usually one or two month's rent, then payment of a month's rent in advance. As for references they don't really seem to care as long as you come up with the money. You will need an NIE number to sign a contract and if you go through a main estate agent they may insist you have a Spanish bank account. So it could take you some time after arriving to actually get a place. Many people pay their rent in cash so make sure you get a receipt. The leases are much more vague than in the UK and much shorter. As for the deposit, anything you get back at the end is a bonus.
