Hi, I am an 80 year old thinking of moving to this area. Are there many ex pats in the area? Lived in Javia for a few years but the area has too many holiday makers. I prefer a traditional lifestyle in Spain

Algorfa is lovely but the pueblo is quite hilly, as is the golf course area. Not many amenities. There are ex.pats there. Look at Almoradi, very Spanish, all on the flat, has a bus station, medical centre, shops, bars, restaurants, great fiestas and parades ( in normal times!!) some ex pats, not too far from Algorfa. Good luck..

Hi Geoff and welcome to the forum!
Great post by Sue. Algorfa is very nice - great selection of restaurants near the golf course - but the same issue that you're currently experiencing, in terms of being more of a holiday home area.
Almoradi is a typical Spanish town with plenty of amenities and, I agree, it would be a better choice for you than Algorfa. I especially like the town square and Saturday market which, pre Covid, are vibrant.
Kind regards,
Kim

Hi Geoff
The town of Algorfa, not to be confused with La Finca, has a great blend of both ex-pat and Spanish residents. Unlike La Finca, Algorfa is the real deal: a genuine Spanish town. It is quite possible to live the Spanish life here, the town square being a mixture of both Spanish and English bars/restaurants. I personally prefer the Spanish ones, if only to practice my Spanish, but whichever you choose the service is always friendly and accommodating. The same goes for shops. There is a great Spanish deli and a traditional Spanish grocers, as well as a small English supermarket. The town is mainly on the flat, an easy hill leading up out of the town. I am a part-time resident aged sixty-eight and I love the place and can't wait to get back after the restrictions. It could have a better bus service, admittedly, but if you have your own transport then Algorfa is an ideal town in which to live.
