MOT in spain
I’m thinking of driving my car UK registered when I move to Alicante next month.Someone told me Spanish don’t like UK cars on their roads and charge huge prices for MOT.
Can anyone comment on this?
Thanks

Or get a sale agreed in the UK and get it transported back after you move as you will get a better price for it. Although Spanish re-sale cars are more expensive, they will hold their value longer and you will have no problems with tolls, car parks and overtaking.
Don't try finding a Spanish reg car in the UK and driving it over. Not only will it be illegal for you to drive it in the UK but the paperwork is complicated and debts, including any fines or non payment of tax, will stay with the car.
There is nothing intrinsically wrong with bringing a UK car to Spain, it's a matter of personal choice although it makes the most sense if you plan to keep it for a good number of years.
Depending on what it is the cost of switching to Spanish plates can be between €1000-1500.
The actual test, called an ITV, is about €57 and is either fixed or capped by the government so the suggestion that the Spanish do not like UK cars and somehow penalise them is utter hogwash!
We moved to Spain about 18 months ago and sold both our U.K. cars as we only need one in Spain, one to webuyanycar.com the day we left for a reasonable price. Once we arrived here permanently we hired a car for a couple of weeks to give us a chance to find a Spanish registered vehicle. A number of reputable car dealers were recommended to us and within 3 days we had purchased a two year old low mileage car and arranged delivery within days fully insured and road taxed!

I just had my UK car pass the ITV test this week and the total cost to import it, including supplying and fitting new headlights was 1050 Euros.
It depends on the emissions of the car as to the tax paid.

Was the car you bought in Spain reasonably priced in comparison to UK?
Thanks
