Hi Does anyone know how easy it is to get back a UK driving licence after living out of the UK for a long time like 20yrs +?

I have a UK passport but the driving licence expired years ago, do you have to take a UK test again and do you have to hand in your EU driving licence if you were cease driving in Spain anymore if it were about to expire also? My EU driving licence is Maltese not Spanish however

Regards

Gary

Hi Gary,

Assuming you passed your original driving test in the UK, this link should help:

https://www.gov.uk/exchange-foreign-driving-licence

Kind regards,

Kim

My son went back to the UK. Just applied for a new licence and it was sent with all the original classes. It was also free. Admittedly he wasn't in Spain as long.

If you passed your test I UK then, subject to being UK resident, you are always entitled to a UK licence.

How long you've been away has no bearing on it at all.
