European Union regulation 2023/5.

It allows partially defatted powder of the house cricket (Acheta domesticus) into the food chain for human consumption.

From this month, the regulation makes clear that cricket powder can be added to the following: “multigrain bread and rolls, crackers and breadsticks, cereal bars, dry pre-mixes for baked products, biscuits, dry stuffed and non-stuffed pasta-based products, sauces, processed potato products, legume- and vegetable- based dishes, pizza, pasta-based products, whey powder, meat analogues, soups and soup concentrates or powders, maize flour-based snacks, beer-like beverages, chocolate confectionary, nuts and oilseeds, snacks other than chips, and meat preparations, intended for the general population”.

Once you get over the initial shock, sounds like it could be a good alternative 🤔

Afterall we do eat some pretty gross stuff as it is, we’ve just become used to it.

never did like to think about ‘black pudding’ for example or infected cows milk ( hence we pasteurise), another one that I think is particularly gross.

Next time you eat food think about the bugs used to create food colouring such as the Cochineal insect in the photo below… 🤮

Am I reading it right ? It seems that the application was made by a British company in 2019.

What is the problem. Eating insects is fairly commonly in many Far Eastern countries and the research into this possibility has been going on for some time.
