Possible move to Alicante

Hi, we rent a flat in the City centre on a yearly contract. 2 bed two bath, top floor atico with a nice roof terrace. Rent is 675 euros per month. No need for a car, and we dont spend anything on heating bills as we dont need it. Internet cost is similar to UK.  For shorter periods of rental you may pay more. It seems possible to negotiate in the winter months. The website idealista gives a good guide to prices. Food etc is probably cheaper here than UK, but temptation to spend in the vast number of bars and restaurants is high.

Thanks Simon that's really helpful. We're actually only to be there for 6 months which may make negotiations a little more difficult especially with not speaking spanish!? Are there any areas to avoid living?

I only really know the central area, which I can recommend but I would avoid the old town known as the Barrio as it looks beautiful and historic during the day but at night it becomes crazy town with bars open everywhere and the noise can be a real problem. If you want to rent off season, you may be able to do a deal with someone. I know a guy who has several flats he lets as an air bnb business in the summer, but they are very underused in the winter months. There are a lot of people doing air bnb here so I am  sure that is a common problem. We rented via an agent who was very helpful and she speaks English. I can pass on her details if you like. It was not easy to get exactly what we wanted, but we persevered and are very happy. If you are less choosy,

 ie dont insist on a terrace, then there is more choice.

It is a very cool City, very Spanish, and great fun.
