Hi I wonder if anyone knows if there is such a thing as sheltered housing or similar in Altea. My mother is 80 and becoming forgetful. She will probably be unable to live independently within a year or two. She does not want to move back to the UK and has a full live in Altea. She is on her own. Does anyone else have experience of this. Thanks

There are of course, also ‘private’ homes and residencias, which tend to cater more to expats; whilst these do incur costs, they do not appear to be as expensive as even council run ones in UK.
In Calpe there is La Colina, which I have seen myself as my mother is a friend of the manageress and has been in there several times for respite care after a hospital stay etc; it appeared to be excellent. There are others in the town also. I have heard of , I think its called casa Patricia, which appears to be private apartments with full time services, not that far from Altea I believe, and also one in Jesus Pobre called Bon Retir.
All the above have websites which may be worth you at least looking at to give you an idea.
