Care4, great.you will love Wise, specially the debit card you can use at any place in Spain tap or pin ..no charge, control on spending ....., just be careful with withdrawal at ATM , I think some bank in Spain will charge but not used it yet. The best thing is the great exchange rate and transfe...

Went to withdraw  180 euros using Wise card first time I'd presented card at Atm Santander wanted 7 euros for this I cancelled  then visited Sabadell  they asked for 1.80 euros which looks like.1% of requested amount havnt tried to use at any other bank

Hi John

Yeah, Santander is extortionate, they charge 7 euros for much smaller amounts as well, Sabadell also appear to charge 1.80 whatever the amount. I don't think these banks are "picking on" Wise - they charge everybody else too!

Deutsche Bank don't charge.

In the aftermath of covid, I pay for almost everything by Wise card these days, no charges. I tend to draw cash out once in a while almost solely to ensure I can leave tips in bars and restaurants!

Cheers

Morning  ,I suppose  people who have accounts with Wise probably  opened the account with view to using to pay Bill's online and not to withdraw  cash at.atm's .I half expected to be charged to withdraw cash at Spanish banks atm's, I agree with your assessment of Santander  and that bank is given bad reviews  from people on this forum ,but my wife and myself  have accounts with Santander UK and are able to withdraw cash at their atms ,without charge where we always select no for the conversion  and we find the rates to be ok

Hi John

My missus also has both Santander UK and Spain, and gets free withdrawals. But, they're not actually free because Santander Spain charge each month simply for having an account.

....hang on, I've just reread your post....do you have an account with Santander Spain? We were led to believe that withdrawals are only free because we do have an account.

If that's wrong I will get off my bum and finally close that account!

Cheers

I have recently changed from sabadell to Wise very easy to set up and have all my direct debits transferred first 3 have been paid with no issues and my suma for 2021 has just gone through which is more than I can say for sabadell as my 2020 wasn't paid so I have paid it through wise also.

As for atm I have only used it here in Northern Ireland with no problem and believe that you can withdraw 250 euros per month free with a charge for any withdrawals thereafter so as previous posters have said I will use my debit card withdraw 250 for incidentals etc and even if I need to withdraw more it will be a hell of a lot cheaper than sabadell extortionate charges for having an account.

Best move I made and many thanks to all those on the forum who provided info.

No we both have Santander UK accounts  can only withdraw at Santander atm free ,I once went into a branch as atm was down but was told nothing they can do for me ,havnt made same mistake again ,but do appreciate  being able to withdraw  money at atm without charge and I think on Costa Blanca  each sizeable area will have a Santander bank

Binzl. With regard to direct debits how did you get on with your water bills? I have read on a number of threads that they are proving difficult and only accept direct debits from EU Iban numbers, and how easy is it to transfer mortgage payments with your current bank to another.

No issues with it as the wise account is a Belgian EU Iban number.

I don't have a mortgage so can't comment on this

I was just wondering if anyone has gone into a branch of lets say Sabadell and tried to withdraw cash over the counter using their respective bank card? thus avoiding the atm completely, or have these good old days gone forever?

Mind you having said that, the last time I went into my local Sabadell to pick up a new debit card I had to wait 45 minutes... and there were only 2 people in front of me

Regards

Gary
