Hi,

Can anyone off er advice on preventing wasps from nesting around my property?

WD40.  Best and cheapest option around.  Spray the nest fully either at dawn or dusk when they are docile.  Although 'Villas' says they are not a problem, clearly they haven't been around when they swarm!!!

Wasps are very territorial so will return to the same place each year.  WD40 prevents this.  It does kill all those that are in the nest though.

We could add a tip about wasp :

spanish people here use clay when they are stung by a wasp. Immediately after the sting, take a little clay soil, spit in it and apply to the stung area. As it dries, the clay will suck up the venom. Here's an idea for Villa's friend, it will reduce the toxic effect while waiting to see a doctor.

Her reply was (for a wasp sting, apply vinegar [acid]. For a suck, find a friend (depending where stung!)

Hi, I had 8 wasps nests in my garden. I had to pay to get rid of them. Now I spray peppermint oil diluted in a spray bottle as a deterrent. So far so good, I have not had any more hives. Probably best to spray every month or so. They won’t go near it if they smell the mint.
