I have a property in Uk and Spain I go back and forth but main residence is Uk I have 3 dogs all up to date with vaccinations and rabies registers with a Uk vet and a Spanish vet. They have been travelling for many years with me now Uk vet says an animal health certificate is a must to get out of the Uk but my Spanish vet says they do not need any as they all have Spanish passports not Uk passports. Obviously my Uk vet wants the £500 for ahc but my Spanish vet is adamant that they do not need one so who is right? I do not want to get to pet reception at eurotunnel just to be turned away. I'm hopefully travelling in September thank you

It is always best to follow official Government guidance/instructions:

Hello

As long as the rabies vaccinations are up to date on all your dogs in the Spanish Passport, you do not need the AHC, but the vaccinations must be in your Spanish passport and not done by a UK vet after Brexit. At present I have 6 months left on my dog's rabies vaccine. It's a Spanish passport, but her booster was done in the UK just before Brexit, so it's still valid. I will be getting her next one done in Spain, to save being ripped off by the UK vets!

I hope that makes sense. I contacted Defra direct to get this answer and can PM you a copy of their response if you need it.

Yes their rabies boosters were done in Spain but vaccination boosters were done in Uk and entered in their Spanish passports. Is that acceptable? Also there is talk about Uk wanting rabies done every 3 years and Spain every 2 years I just don't understand how this works. I always get their treatment done in Spain if possible as vets prices here are scandalous. You have explained this in a good plain way and I'm grateful and yes that would be great if you could show me that thank you

Hi,  the booster for rabies if done in the UK, MUST have been done before Brexit and be in an EU passport, otherwise it's not valid.

Yes, Spain has different rules regarding rabies vaccine to the UK as the risk in Spain is higher. UK every 3 years, Spain 1, 2 or 3 depending on the vet, how often you visit and the risk in that region.
