What would happen if one didnt spend 183+ days in year one of the NLV>? I assume it wouldnt be renewed so at expiry would you have to re submit for another?

For starters you wouldnt be resident for tax purposes.  And that would suit me.

Hi Mitch,

If or when you have gained the NLV and move to Spain you are required to apply for residency within the first month otherwise the NLV becomes invalid so failing to register for residency puts you back to the 90/180 day rule. Staying past the 90 days will make you an illegal immigrant and all that entails.

Just to add a more confusing scenario I have just been through, the NLV to be valid requires you to be in the Country for 180 days from the date of the Residency (on the TIE Card). Residency year

For Tax Purposes Spain requires you to be in the country for 183 days in the tax year which is from January to December.

Hope this helps clear the confusing fog around Visa's and Residency.

Can you spend the 183 days in different parts of Spain in. Some time in valencia and some time in tenerife?

I don't see why not as it's all Spanish territory, however I do believe that you must have a residential address for the NLV application.
