Hotel booking

Hi everyone forgot to ask earlier ... do you get a better deal booking a flight+hotel or booking the hotel in Benidorm?
Flights from Birmingham are as little as £45 return.

I always used to book the flight with ryanair etc, then book with the hotel direct. A lot of hotels offer a free transfer if you stay at least 7 days.
That way I could look for the cheapest flights, then cross reference that with the hotel costs. A little bit of back and forth on dates and you can save quite a bit.
But, with the way things have been, if your flight gets cancelled for whatever reason and you haven't take out insurance that covers you the hotel won't refund you for the stay.
