Hi Nathan, I dont want to put you on a downer but, I am a live in carer, there really isnt much, if any work here in Spain, the rates of pay are very low, 7.50 euro per hour and you would be expected to travel between clients. I worked for an agecy called Helping Hands, they do training sessions in Torrevieca (you pay for accommodation but they pay for training unless you dont decide to take placements offered0 this means commuting from spain to the uk for work, i did 8 weeks in uk and weeks break ( i found this hard but financially better because of air fares, which the carer pays for, although taxi/train fares to clients house paid for by agency, return taxi is up to the carer to pay for). If you decide to become self employed carer here in spain you are liable for approx 250 euro per month towards social security, this is paid whether you have work or not! Most people looking for carers ie expats will not want to provide you with a legal contract, that means they dont have to pay your social security stamp. One other thing is that, I am now employed, legally in the UK by a family I PREVIOUSLY CARED FOR THROUGH THE AGENCY, I PAY NI AN TAX IN THE UK BUT...I am also having to pay Spanish taxes on my earnings, this is apparently because the uk personal allowance is say 11,000 pounds per annum but here in spain its 5500 euro per annum therefore I am having to save 20% of my uk earnings to pay the tax bill levied through my spanish accountant each year, when you have to legally file a tax return. Anyway I hope this helps, if you need any more info pm me, i'm on a weeks leave atm. There are other agencies doing live-in care Spain to UK but be careful because a lot of them insist you are self employed, theyre almost more of an introduction agency and you will have to pay the 250 euro whether you are working or not. good luck
