Hi we are hoping to move in the new year and both me and my wife will need to find jobs. I am a welder fabricator mostly doing roller shutters, automatic gates, doors ect  i have been doing it 26 years. My wife is a senior support worker in a hospital. we will be looking to settle on one of the campsites in Benidorm.  Any information regarding the cheapest campsites and work opportunities welcome. Thanks

Hi,

After the Brexit transition period ends on 31st December 2020 the UK will be regarded as a 3rd nation country. The requirement to live legally in Benidorm or indeed anywhere in Spain will far tougher than they are now.

At the moment the requirements are that within the first 90 days of living in Spain you will have to sign on the foreigners register and you need to prove that you have enough income to satisfy the authorities that you won't become a burden on the state. At this time you will need to show you have an income of between €750-€900 per month paid into a Spanish bank for at least the previous 3 months. You both will need comprehensive healthcare cover for both you and any dependants.

After 6 months you will automatically become tax residents and be expected to pay taxes to the Spanish tax office .

Jobs for your industrial expertise (welding) are virtually non existent in Benidorm or surrounding areas as most jobs are in the hospitality industry. Your wife may have more opportunities as a healthcare worker but even so you both need to speak enough Spanish to understand rules and regulations. I must add that Spain has a very high unemployment rate and even more so after all the covid virus problems.

There are numerous campsites around Benidorm but renting a caravan can be as expensive as renting a 2 bedroom apartment.

Have a look at "Jim's Guides " that can be found in the drop down list of the menu on the left hand side of the page. You will find valuable information about all you need to know about living legally in Spain.

Do plenty of research into the legalities of living here in Spain and what the requirements will be after Brexit.

"There are numerous campsites around Benidorm"

True but how many with possibilities for legal residence and how many of those with vacancies?

Such spots have always been in huge demand, perhaps more so now than ever, and will have waiting lists likely measured in years.

Sorry but as described your plan is a non starter.

Incidentally the income of between €750-€900 is per person not per couple and should be from stable sources such as pensions.

Have a little read through this, especially the "I hate living in Spain" article.

I'm retired so don't have all the worry of having to find work but I've still struggled at times with the bureaucracy and yes, I've been conned (Brit on Brit), luckily for less than €1,000.

I have no plans to return to the UK as I love it here but my circumstances are totally different to yours.
