Just arrived back in Spain and had to retune my Humax box, as couldnt get BBC1 as BBC1 has gone over to HD. Now I can't watch BBC1 as the reception is terrible. I can only watch World BBC1 which isn't HD, but I'm not interested in that. Is there any way I can watch normal BBC1, or is it because I only have a 1.3 metre dish?

Never heard of "World BBC1 which isn't HD". On Astra 2 (UK TV satellites), there is BBC 1 HD for various UK regions, but not a "world" BBC1.

Over the last three months BBC have defaulted their channels to HD. And HD signals are slightly "weaker" than SD, due to how the transponders / frequencies are configured. So it may mean either your dish is not aligned correctly (or poor make of dish, dish warped, poor make of LNB), or your dish is too small to receive the HD signals (many people in the south costa blanca are finding their "1.4m" dishes are now slightly too small for these signals).

But , until the end of March 24, the BBC are still transmitting in SD (with BBC 1 in SD but with no local programming...is this what you mean by "world BBC1"). These channels are not on the Freesat EPG, so you have to add them manually: https://youtu.be/V0g9Gs5v48o/?sub_confirmation=1

IPTV - tv via the internet.Prices range from free to a couple of hundred a year, depending on how you want to go about it, quality, reliability etc.

Hi Sat Guy

At the risk of going slightly off topic - we've stuck with satellite for a long time because my wife needs subtitles and I found it impossible to get them reliably via IPTV.

Do you know of anyway to solve this problem?

Cheers

Most channels via satellite have subtitles - i think it is a legal requriement for most channels to have subtitles available on most content,

But by their nature, putting subtitles on every channel for an IPTV service (unless an official iptv service like iPlayer or ITVX), is complicated. Which is why most IPTV service have a limited number of channels with subtitles. And since they are unofficial it is not an requirement, and for the small numbers of people who will actually use them, it is not cost efficient for them.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but it's nice to have confirmation from somebody more knowledgeable!
