We have a holiday home in Cabo Riog And currently bank with Sabadell Bank. As the charges have now increased to €35 a quarter, we are wondering how easy is it to close Bank account and transfer all direct debits to Revolut/Transferwise. Does this require a visit to the Bank/ Solicitor? Any advise would be appreciated

Must be done in person (all beneficiaries) and they will come up with so many impediments and excuses, keep you waiting and more.. If you want to take your money other than in cash, aks first what charges apply for transfers or cheque.

Hi I am answering my own question here. Having read other forums it seems the best way to avoid Bank charges is to move all DDs to Transferwise. We have to actually go to the Bank to close the account which we will do as soon as we are allowed to travel to Spain.

We closed our Sabadell bank account last year. It was not straight forward and took several phone calls. Firstly our bank balance had to be zero, so we cancelled all DD's (don't even get me started on that as we had a nightmare getting the utility companies to accept a UK bank IBAN number so the DD's would come from our UK account). Then there has to be no other products or services attached to the account. We previously had our apartment insurance with the bank so had to ring a different number to cancel that and the auto renewal. We were told by the insurance team that we had been mis-informed by the bank and that we could keep our insurance with Sabadell but still close the bank account. Thankfully we got there in the end. We did not need to visit the branch, did it all over the phone.

Thank you for your reply. Travel wise has an European Iban so that part is easy. Also we will wait until we are allowed to travel to Spain to close the account. Quesada forum was very helpful with all the information on closing/ changing dds  with Sabadell Bank
