Considering getting a Wise debit card.

How long is the Wise card valid for.

Where can I use near La Zenia without charge...is it issued on a Sterling account or Euro account.

Comment welcome.

Hi Barry

My own wise card has a valid date of 6 years.  The same date is on my wise mobile card attached to Apple Pay on my phone.

You can use the wise card anywhere that accepts a card payment. You will find that only those who do not take a card at all will not accept the wise card. It’s not like the American Express which does not always do nicely! Being a debit card the seller is paid as if you have given them cash or your actual bank card from a local bank.

So far our card has not been turned away at any store, bar and restaurant, we where even pleased to find many stall holders at Torrevieja market had readers and took card payments.

The card is able to hold up to 53 currency’s that you may wish it to. Our lead account if you will is Stirling as we applied for the card in the UK.  From the on line app you then choose which currency you wish your card to be able to convert and pay in. Think of it as little wallets or pockets holding different currencies for you. You can load € and just use it for just € or change those € into £ and $ etc.  It’s no different than holding you banks debit card but your bank is located in 53 countries if you wish.

If you have a € account load € alternatively if you have £ then load that. Each currency you choose to hold on your card will also have its own IBAN and BIC number so you can be paid, if say you have a business or perhaps rented property, in any of the currency’s you have chosen for your card. You can of course with the same IBAN numbers pay a direct debit to a company in that currency, say for utilities etc.

The only annoying thing about a wise card for me is you cannot have a joint account, unless it’s a business account.  So for us the account is in my name and I simply got 2 cards, the second my husband holds.  No one has refused his tapping or paying with it, although it has my name on it lol. Guess no one actually looks or cares these day as long as they get tick payment made.

You may find the below link to YouTube where they explain all about the wise account helpful.

Hi Barry

If you mean to use an ATM without charge, I use cashzone ATMs - there's one on the pavement outside Murphy's, near the Boulevard. But if you exceed your free allowance from Wise, then Wise themselves will charge.

Cheers
