Dad’s amputation, the cost.
Hi all,
My father is in he’s 80’s and lives in Malaga and has done so for 20 years. Over the last few years he’s health has deteriorated to the extent that he now lives in a care home/residency fully paid for by he’s family (we live in the uk). He has diabetes and this has resulted in significant deterioration of his legs. A couple of weeks ago I received a call from the local hospital to inform me that dad had been admitted to hospital for a procedure to remove part of his leg and this has now been completed successfully. I then received an invoice from the hospital (Costa del Sol) in the sum of around €700 in respect to incineration of the leg. My question is, is it expected that we should pay the hospital charge for the incineration/disposal. My father was born in Spain and has lived in the country as a retiree with full residency for the last 20 years. I am surprised that a charge has been raised as I had assumed this would be covered by the state under their own national health system.
Thanks in advance or any advice.
