Can anyone recommend: Soundproofing

Hello - the apartment above us is often rented out to different people who sometimes like to move furniture around late on or walk around up there with shoes on etc and can be rather noisy at times. Although these old apartments are not really built to protect from much noise I am thinking about soundproofing both my bedroom ceilings and wondered if anyone has had it done and if so is there anyone you could recomend etc?

Hi Marie

I will give you my opinion with some experience back in Dublin,

You can gain some relief from your problems at some expense, all apartment block in Europe suffer some degree of noise but modern Apartment blocks are taking this problem into consideration.

You can screw a light .metal track to ceiling as ceiling should be concrete, the screw a similar track going opposite direction so create a small cavity and this is suppose to stop sound travelling, You then screw a Blue coloured Plasterboard to metal track, you will need to fix some timber where your ceiling light / fan before fixing Plasterboard,.You will need to skim Plasterboard and paint ceiling.

2 average size bedroom = 4 days work

If you are a Permanent resident I would consider it but if its a holiday home live with it or sell up. It is a very common problem in Spain 🇪🇸 it not a problem easily solved,

It would be much cheaper to stop the noise at source. Tell your Administrator about the problem because the owner is responsible for any nuisances and the Administrator can contact him/her. Also find out if the owner has a tourist licence. No licence means no tourists coming and going. Your Administrator can find this out as well.
