Hi,

Just travelled to Spain via Brittany ferry to Bilbao where our passports were duly stamped on arrival….spent 4/5 weeks on the costa Blanca and then chose to drive via France back to Uk ( Calais) and with no one at the french/ Spainish border and then not getting an exit stamp at Calais our passports now show we are technically still in euro zone? I asked Uk borderforce about it and he said “ yer…all a bit flaky at the min….and keep your travel docs for evidence in case of problems in the future?” Not very clear at all and now worried if you get the wrong person on entering euro zone again we will be turned back? Why make rules and not follow through eh? Right pain in backside now and I had already asked if their is any record of us returning to Uk and borderfoce guy said no! Reassuring eh? Guess we will have to buy an inflatable boat to use in the future as that’s looking like the only way to cross at this rate? Anyone else had this experience with passports? Thanks in advance.

Look at previous thread regarding this problem, it may help

If you do a quick search, you find that it’s the new in thing to be posting about, Quite a few of them mention the advice regarding retaining boarding cards

There are two long threads in particular one for entering U.K. the other for exiting, full of people in a similar situation.

Left Spain yesterday via Alicante airport, gate C33. Boarding card checked before gate, Covid documentation, boarding card & locator form checked at gate. Passport not checked as waved through the E gate, along with many other passengers. No one at gate to stamp passport. It's a bit of a farce at the moment

Looking at the reports in today’s press, it looks as though tightened measures will kick into place when ETIAS starts next year.

Also Lynn looks like there may be changes on the horizon  regarding 90/180 according to same press

Yes, but I can’t see it happening as it’s just being pushed by the Alicante (Costa Blanca) area. There would be an uproar in Murcia and Andalusia if it was allowed to happen. How could they police a second home owner on the Costa del Sol. If they fly into Malaga they would be restricted to 90 days, but if they fly into Alicante they could stay 180 days.

The finer part of the talks obviously have not been released to the media.

Hi Basil Brush,

There appears to be little consistency at the different border crossings at the moment.  Advice from the Spanish embassy for non-residents, who don't receive a stamp in their passport, is that they should retain their boarding pass for that journey - proof of ticket purchase is not sufficient.

As Spanish residents, I was interested to see what would happen when we checked in for our ferry crossing yesterday from Caen to Portsmouth.  I handed our passports to the French border control guard, which he scanned and then asked for our residency cards.  While our Passenger Locator Forms state that we live in Spain, they don't detail our residency status, so French border control must have had access to digital data that identified us as Spanish residents - and, correctly, we didn't receive a stamp in our passports.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you for your reply Kimmy,

Yes it all seems a case of wait and see at the moment?
Iam sure it will all unfold in the future and only time will tell how enforced or not it is regarding the 90/180 days position?
all the best,

Regards

BB
