The main breaker in my friends house keeps triping, i think the outside lights are the problem. Could the main be more sensitive like the wrong type. I knocked out some breakers for stuff and its better like 3 days but its still the main that goes out. Nor great for the freezers etc.

Hi

If it's always the main breaker, then the first thing to do is find out what potencia your friend has on his contract. It may be 3.3kW - which means that he's only allowed to draw a maximum of 3.3kW at any one time.

So if his water boiler, heating and oven all draw 1.5kW, and they are all switched on then they could be attempting to draw 4.5kW between them, causing the main breaker to trip out.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve, but he is away and nothing switched on other than freezer. He has the higher 5.5Kw elect and solar also. I guess its outside somewhere, its lasted 4 days this time so not easy to find.

These main breakers (RCD in English) are designed to trip with a very low current (30mA) so that you come to no harm.  Thus they are very very sensitive to anything connected to them that may have  a small problem.  The best way to run down where the problem is, is to turn off all the other breakers in the box then start bringing them back on and see which one causes it to trip.

Don't do it all at once, take your time. The last breaker you brought back on will identify which circuit the fault lies on.

You can narrow it down even further by switching everything on that circuit or pulling all the plugs then bring them back on one by one  This is NOT a five minute job..

Let's hope it does not rain.  Even here in Spain with minimal rain many people tend to suffer from 'damp' electrics while they are away.

Just a suggestion, shove a fan heater in the oven doorway and dry it out out for a couple of hours before bringing it up to heat.

Always leave the door open when you are not here.
