Pareja de hecho / De Facto Partnerships

Can anyone advise me please on the process of the Pareja de Hecho or information regarding De Facto couples?
I have tried online; "registro de parejas de hecho," but I found it all a bit daunting, to be honest (and confusing).
Not speaking / understanding Spanish does not help either - I am learning Spanish and am hoping to enrol on a course next month, ready for the September term.
I understand that different regions require different documentation, but exactly what is required / how do I find out?
If anyone has been through the process and can offer me any advice, I'd appreciate it.
