MERCADONA has announced that it will be bringing in new security protocols to cope with a rise in panic buying over the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after scenes of hysteria from its stores across the country have seen queues from early hours, large crowds and stockpiling leaving shelves bare.

Myself "was" going to visit Consum, but changed my mind after seeing the queue outside, seperated, 4.5 metres apart, being issued with tickets. & all those leaving with loads of toilet-rolls & pasta, changed my mind, only wanting a Mars Bar (going home without my chocolate!)

Hi, You will pass Consum, but Hiperber & Dia are closed together. You´ll not get arrested! eg: You need the bank nearby. Dia, Gran Via, Hiperber, C/ San Francisco. Before G/ Via.

Hope helps & good walking.

On my way to the pharmacy this morning I happened to pass by my local Mercadonna fully expecting to see long queues but with none apparent and wanting a couple of items I detoured into the car park to see no more than a handful waiting by the door where they were operating a 'one out/one in' rota so I took the opportunity to join the queue and get my bits.

Some of the shelves were a bit bare in places but I saw no sign of panic buying or people overbuying, all very civillised really.

Agree, Today, Consum, full of cars. Dia & Hiperber less fraught. IE: Many use . The "outsiders" tend to visit the outer-fringe Consum.

Just by coincidence, I´m 1 min (walk) to Consum. No problem for the other two. (or even a Spar) near the Cruz Roca.

Castleman has an option. & certainly will not be arrested for which-ever he chooses. Regards. Hopes all well with you.

I had no problems in torrevieja today re Aldi and mercadona, just small queues outside and it was a treat not to be pushed and shoved around, both shops were well organised and plenty on the shelves, mind you though it probably helped having the guardia Seville monitoring the queue. Well done to the shop workers and thank you.

Hi Peter,

Which Aldi store in torrevieja?  Av de las Cortes ? We're any police checking where you were going ? You have to prove somehow to them you are getting food if stopped? My local Aldi is Claudio tolomeo have you been? I need to go tomorrow desperately for supplies and water. Hoping it will be ok and no hassle from the cops ? On the spot fines etc .😢
