How long can I rent a property for in Spain before I have to return to the UK? Since Brexit I have become clueless at the rules and regulations now. I was looking at renting for 3-6 month. Finding a property that takes a dog is difficult also. I have tried contacting agents in dehesa but no one replies. Any help?

You can only stay 90 days in any 180, if you want to stay longer you need to apply for the NLV at a Spanish Consulate in the UK.

If you have a UK passport then your maximum is 90 days. This can be in one stretch or broken down but in any 180 days you cannot spend more than 90 in the whole Schengen zone.

Hi Paolo51,

I think your post would read more accurately if it said, "You can only stay 90 days in a rolling 180; if you want to BECOME RESIDENT you need to apply for the NLV at a Spanish Consulate in the UK."  Of course, applying for a Non-Lucrative Visa isn't a way around Schengen rules, not least because you can´t leave Spain for more than 10 months in the first 5 years of residency (6 months maximum in any tax year).

Kind regards,

Kim
