We are planning on visiting Denia each year with our dog for 3 months in Winter. We own an apartment in Denia, so have a Spanish address and NIE etc. Will it be possible to get a Spanish EU pet passport for future visits or do you have to be a full time Spanish resident for that?

Yes, you’ll be able to get a Spanish Pet passport, the only issue you’ll encounter is the frequency of the rabies booster, 3 years in uk, 2 years in Spain, and yearly in Valencia. We now have our dogs rabies boosters yearly at our Spanish vet, an awful lot cheaper than the UK.

Once your back in Spain, pop into your vet he’ll organise it all, and you won’t need the uk Animal Health certificate any more, lots more savings.

hope this helps

Just do it asap, I had a novel length of a nightmare with my two Romanian rescues, ones Rabies had run out and had to be done in Scotland ,then AHC ! £648 for one!   anyway.  France have said you must be resident to get French passport and I think Spain may follow suit ,hopefully not . But, if you couldn’t get back to Spain at any time the rabies needed done, you only need to get to France for the day. That’s my plan if needed. My Spanish vet marked up the Romanian passport as the AHC had all the info and now the Romanian ones are perfect.

Our dog's rabies jab is due for renewal and it's being done tomorrow (21st) and we are getting an EU Pet Passport at the same time. Our UK Pet Passport obviously expired with Brexit and I couldn't believe the cost of the Animal Health Certificate we had to get to bring our dog back to Spain, and that only lasts 4 months, what a con!

How much were you charged or will be charged. Not only, “ only 4 months “ validity but ONLY one trip.  couldn’t use it for a few trips to France during the 4mths  this.    MORE of a con!  Why would our government not arrange a U.K. issued pet passport that would be recognised ? After all, ALL the vets were trained under the Same EU rules for many years

There seems to be a few areas where the UK has lost out to the EU since Brexit, this is a good example, as is the limit of 90 days in EU for UK citizens compared to 180 days for EU citizens in UK without a visa! hopefully, there will be future negotiations to redress some of these anomolies

Rabies jab plus usual annual booster together with a new Pet Passport the cost was 48 Euros. Compare that to the UK Health Certificate for 4 months costing just over £200!

Yes, I was going to get a Spanish one too but our two Romanian ones are fine now. Try Bruceview Vets in Stirling ,charged me £648.00 for One Animal Health Cert !   Robbed me.    But, I didn’t take it laying down, I got all of it back after demanding a breakdown of how it could equate to that much. Just filling in a form.   There is a vet in Portsmouth Pass4pets , £99 for the first one and £50 every one after that . Guy is his name. This may help someone
