Living in Dolores

How did you come to choose Dolores?

There are very few bars and restaurants there and even those there are might not be open in the winter so if that's your priority I'd look elsewhere. I'd also describe it as as much North African as Spanish although to be fair the same can be said of many of the small towns flanking the AP7.

Quite frankly IMO Dolores is total dump devoid of redeeming features or qualities and the only good thing about the place is that it's not too far away from some more interesting and lively towns like Catral, Almoradi, and San Fulgencio, for instance - it's a town to be passed through on the way to somewhere else, not somewhere to stop !!!

Good luck getting to the beach from there too.

Almoradí, in my opinion, has a lot more going for it, and would be a better hub for exploring.

Good morning and thanks to all for the replies.

I have chosen Dolores only because there is a small camp site there called Shepherds Rest. I have recently purchased a small caravan which is currently in storage in Palomares, Almeria. 

I am researching caravan sites in the Costa Blanca area ( easier accessibility to airport etc).

I am not interested in the large caravan sites with all the facilities and this little site in Dolores is the type of place I think would suit us.

My concern about this site is its proximity to Dolores. We like a walk and have a lovely border collie dog. Is it an easy and safe walk into Dolores from this camp site?

I know Sheppards Rest and Jill who owns it as I used to store a caravan there, last I heard though (a few months ago) it was pretty much full with no vacancies - and nearly all Brits - so quite how that squares with your stated desire for a "Spanish Town" I'm not sure.
 

If that's the sort of accommodation/location you're really looking for then Guardamar Park on the CV920 might perhaps suit you better, don't expect any public transport though!

Does anyone know if Guadamar Park is actually taking touring caravans ?

 All I can find with them online is marketing information on new statics
