I have owned a property in Villamartin for the very 5 years now. Our favourite place to go was The Plaza because of the entertainment. If the IPG are “taking over”......um sorry, but we will be going further afield for our meals, drinks.....which is so sad for the bars and restaurant that are...

... not a part of the IPG 👎

I must admit that in my opinion Villamartin Plaza has been going backwards for some time now, even pre-covid. Two restaurants we went to go regularly when over, The Clubhouse and The Square, have both been gone for some time now and there are no like for like replacements. Not sure why that is, even Quesada II fish&chips have left!.

Seems to be a anti-IPG sentiment in many posts so I presume they must have done something to cause this?

Aitch.

p.s. better restaurants in Los Dolses now, Quisine, O'Sole Mio, Mateus, Miss Asia, Gran China, etc.

It clearly is a whitewash operation guys. We live in the area, but stay clear of Villamartin Plaza. Nothing, really nothing to do there. There are not even any decent restaurants on that square.

The ONLY way the Plaza can and will survive is by bringing back the live music on the central stage on a daily basis, make it child-friendly with a free playground and for-pay atteactions ( like Zenia blvd does), get some quality restaurants/ bars in.

Now, it is purposely being sabotaged .

Hi,

when you say " its clearly a whitewash operation"? I've no idea what that means? could you explain.

Thanks,

Aitch.

As well as taking over a number of premises in Cabo Roig, Lomas de Cabo Roig, La Fuente and Quesada. The IPG have bought out I think it’s around 8 bars/restaurants in the Plaza. Their HO is in the Plaza and you can book golf tee times - at a price that none of the other official companies can match. They run expat services Book holidays, apartments and if you become a member you get free airport pick ups and free hire cars. You need to be a member for your one child to use the childrens play area. So if you have 2 children you need to buy 2 memberships! Some of the bars are members only and you need to become a member to use the hair and beauty establishments he’s been talking about opening.

The group buy the bar  open it for a week or so and then keep it closed for a year or more. If you’re lucky the bar may reopen. Probably only around 25% of the bars owned by the group are currently trading.

By owning so many bars in the Plaza, he had a large say in the way the bars contribute to the central entertainment, so with so many internal disputes the Plaza were unable to proceed with the summer programme.

We always used to take our visitors for an evening meal as they wanted to see the place made famous by “A Place in the Sun” but with so many place’s boarded up, it’s no longer the attraction it used to be.
Slowly but surely becoming The IPG Plaza.

Hi,

thank you for the detail, though I am still not sure why it is referred to as whitewashing.

I cannot see how the model described will work, at some point surely they have to build up the businesses again to make a profit, not much gain in sitting with a load of empty buildings.

The whole situation is strange but the reality is that the Plaza is going downhill and there has been little post-covid pick-up so something is not right.

By the way, La Fuente Centre is going the same way, several of the restaurants there have closed.

Rgds,

Aitch.

3 or 4 of them belong to the IPG.

Hopefully something wonderful is going to come out of this

I am presuming the term of whitewash was used as the buying of bars of restaurants is being used as a cover for his real business

All the businesses that are closed make a very hefty weekly profit 😉

Good post, of course they do  and that’s the reason, they can afford to buy more and more businesses.

They’re making so much money they’ve even added a dry cleaning business to the chain.
