Hi,

thank you for the detail, though I am still not sure why it is referred to as whitewashing.

I cannot see how the model described will work, at some point surely they have to build up the businesses again to make a profit, not much gain in sitting with a load of empty buildings.

The whole situation is strange but the reality is that the Plaza is going downhill and there has been little post-covid pick-up so something is not right.

By the way, La Fuente Centre is going the same way, several of the restaurants there have closed.

Rgds,

The Commercial centres of Villamartin plaza, La Fuentes, Los Dolses and Rioja have become so run down. We have lived in the area nearly 8 years and in that time there does not appear to have been any work on the infrastructure of these centres to bring them up to a reasonable standard. An example of this is the stairs in the La Fuentes CC by Isabela's are in a very dangerous state back boards of the stairs are hanging loose. There are cracked and broken slabs on the steps in front of the Ibex office. Los Dolses is in a worse state, last year a large chunk of masonry fell off the wall of the solicitors on the higher level which landed right by the Bankinter ATM how no one was injured I do not know. Why are the owners not being forced to bring these centres up to standard.

Hi,

your right about the state of the centres. I don't really go much to either La Fuente or Villamartin now.

Los Dolses and Rioja centre we do go to, there are several restaurants that are good standard and generally busy, there are a number of other businesses that also seem to be doing well.

With the construction of the numerous blocks of flats the other side of Ctra De Villamartin there will be/is a large increase in the customer base available to the various restaurants and businesses in the area so an upgrade would pay dividends in the long run.

Who should force the owners to bring the centres up to standard? I would say that's the local council but, as with other council services, they don't appear to be taking much interest.

Thanks for mentioning the falling masonry, I had not heard about that happening. Maybe that's why IPG decided to add a medical centre to their portfolio....................

Rgds,

I have owned a holiday home for 25 years, before most of the commercial centres were built.

I think they are are a good thing but they all look so tatty.

It wouldn’t be hard for each business to contribute a small weekly sum for the upkeep of the communal areas. Or am I being to simplistic?

I’ve come to the conclusion that, as in most places on the Costas that there is no “civic pride”, business owners, and house owners are quite prepared to look after their own properties but community spaces are let to rot.

Just look at the roundabouts, when they are constructed they look great, a year later they are covered in weeds and rubbish.

Like everything else it means someone had to do the donkey work on behalf of others.

There are plenty of folk willing to do it for charitable causes… strange!!!

Rant over, have a good weekend everyone 😎

Villamartin Plaza is now a dump!!..we used to love going to the Plaza for it's music and the Charity events were amazing!..now (it's just a dump!)..and I feel ashamed to take my family and friends whome I've boasted to about how great it was!....

A lick of paint wouldn't go amiss!

It’s so sad and because of all the publicity given on A Place in the Sun it the place new visitors to the area always want to see.

We've been here nearly 6 weeks and not been to the Plaza once, we used to go at least a couple of time a week. Same with La Fuente, only been there once. Other than the run down appearance the restaurants that used to appeal to us are no longer around. I don't think it would take that much to get it back the decor back up to scratch, amazing what a few coats of paint will do, but they need to attract some better restaurants.

It's probably linked to covid and the lack of visitors, hopefully this year will help with the recovery.

It’s an unusual business model. They bought a share in Ryans Bar La Fuente this time last year and I don’t think we have ever seen it open.

Apparently, work starting on May 1st to knock into next door unit, combine, and turn into a cocktail and tapas venue, as per FB

Yes, see my earlier post.

However take those dates with a huge pinch of salt

The bars are not going to get the same amount of trade, now that the music has gone from the centre. As soon as a bar closes , the IPG will buy it and it won’t be long before it’s the zirish Village he’s aiming for.

Lots of people boycotting his bars because of what he’s done with the Chikdrens playground, he’s upset a lot of people.

He typically buys a bar, runs it for a week and then closes it down for 12 months whilst supposedly refurbishing. There’s got to be at least 10 of his bars scattered across the area, that are basically empty shells.

Graham Lynn..totally agree. They are spoiling it for everyone, only interested in themselves.  If it wasn’t for all the people who live here permanently and the thousands of holiday makers that come here year after year.......they’d be f...ckd

It clearly is a whitewash operation guys. We live in the area, but stay clear of Villamartin Plaza. Nothing, really nothing to do there. There are not even any decent restaurants on that square.

The ONLY way the Plaza can and will survive is by bringing back the live music on the central stage on a daily basis, make it child-friendly with a free playground and for-pay atteactions ( like Zenia blvd does), get some quality restaurants/ bars in.
...

...

Now, it is purposely being sabotaged .

Mandarin...totally agree 👍
