Just accept it, after all you would only end up throwing the majority of furniture etc out, everybody does once they get a close look at what’s been left.

There are some really lovely furniture shops here in Spain, the Spanish have real flair when it comes to furniture design.

The positive in all this is you can style the interior to your taste not someone else's, chances are what is being taken was fit for the skip, if there was any of that horrid baked bean coloured furniture then the seller is welcome to it!

We are going to be selling up and looking for another property later this year we will insist on vacant possession, we want a completely blank canvas, don't want a stick of furniture left behind by the sellers.

The problem we had was that nothing worked. I.e. the air conditioning, hob etc. There were also no fans, or heating of any description. Make sure everything works or ask for a reduction to cover the cost of repair/replacement and make sure there are keys/hand controls for everything.

I saw a property last year and the agent’s website said ‘furnished’.   The property then came down in price, I went to view the property and I made an offer, which was accepted. I had no immediate need of the house and was perfectly happy to let them stay on for a while after the sale while they got their new property ‘ship-shape’.

They did not accept my offer to let them stay (thank goodness) but were extremely reluctant for me to see the property just before the sale as my lawyer had suggested. I managed to see the house 30 minutes before our appointment with the Notary! It was empty!

The British owners left 2 mangy dog- and rat-eaten sofas and a series of dog-eaten doors, none of which had been evident when furnished.

I admit that I was quite shocked but thought that I probably would have thrown away most of it anyway. The cooker was so filthy and encrusted with grease I couldn’t imagine myself cleaning it and had planned to buy new. The only working white-goods item was a washing machine which they didn’t intend leaving but they had virtually built the bathroom around it so it couldn’t be removed without removing part of the bathroom wall!

Another item they took was an outside loo! Yes, really! I saw the owner struggle out to his car with it!

I did speak to the agent about this but got nowhere. He said that the price had been reduced so it is presumed that the furnishings are no longer included. Not a satisfactory reply. He is also British.

I don’t know why but these sellers were totally hostile towards us. We agreed on the price, I was a cash buyer, yet they even kept the remote control for the gates.

I have no contact number for them so when post arrives for them I take it into the lawyer’s office or it goes back to the sender.

I can’t say this is Spanish attitude as all concerned are British! You learn something every day.

The same happened to us when we bought a property in Moraira last year, only taking personal stuff but didn’t quite end up like that. The more important thing to be aware of is that they have paid all the outstanding bills. When we tried to fill the gas tank there was an outstanding bill which we had to pay before they would fill. Still trying to get the money from our solicitor, their solicitor or vendor but not looking hopeful. Do double check for your own sanity. Regards

Maybe just walk away from the troubles and just enjoy the place, furnished or otherwise. Yes for sure a pain.

We bought formally through lawyers from a lovely older chap, we walked around and said - 'it's all yours...if you are taking anything then let us know (so we may be prepared), otherwise leave whatever you don't need in your current apartment being a move from a substantially larger villa).

Well...there is humour in this...he left stuff he had promised to take (quite a lot of rubbish) and surprisingly a family heirloom of an impossible small double bed...and took a ton of things he had 'listed verbally' as staying. Hey ho.

The first night we pulled a couple of single mattresses onto the stone floors in front of a log fire....tad chilly. They seemed surprised that we were actually moving in that day, even after 3 hours sorting the keys out (there are only 3 major ones)...

The empty gas bottles were a wake-up call and if you need the Spanish for 'I would like 2 new gaz bottles / recharges' at the filling station...let me know. I have it engraved on my mind.

All good, even if it went close to the wire of our return to the UK to have the racing pigeons and chickens take away.

You wouldn't wish it any other way. Have fun.

That's funny David because they left the most and I mean most disgusting cooker and actually took the gas bottles. No furniture left but off for new stuff today 👍

When I bought my apartment a few months ago I was told I would lose my deposit/s if I pulled out - and the vendor would have to pay back the deposit plus an equal sum if he/she renamed on the deal. Hope all works out for you.

We are due to sign at the Notary in a weeks time for an apartment.

It was agreed that the offer price was to include the apartment as it is including furniture etc except for sentimental items.

The seller has taken a dislike to his and our agent and has told us now that he is taking everything (after he has had our deposit)

Is this a breach in contract or do I just have to 'suck it up'

Thanks

hi, well ,sentimental items you would not want anyway, but if the items of furniture is not that great value, then it is not worth the legal hastle which will possibly cost more. i myself was left with a broken fridge ( i fixed myself ) and as you live in the place, you eventually will dispose of their goods. in my opinion, you are better with a new start, good luck..
