Hi if anyone can help would be great.

Bought a brand new car from an official dealership and picked up the car 2 days ago once the registration plate was issued and given the temporary registration form by the dealer for this brand new car. I obtained insurance before i drove it off and have to go back to the dealer to pick up the full registration when it arrives in a week or so. I have now just read conflicting advice on Road Tax online and then when I contacted SUMA the advice was not clear either. They said at registration tax would have been paid for period but then said it could only be paid with permanent documents which will take 2 weeks - So does anyone know if the registration process for a brand new car means that the Road Tax is covered - the dealer manager who speaks English is off until.next week? Surely when they let you drive off in a brand new car on its first ever journey / register the tax would have to be covered ? It is currently sat all shiny and new on the drive and I am looking at it thinking my luck I'll be stopped and impounded by police if I dare go out. Any help hugely appreciated!

You will get your Suma bill for the car next year it’s just the way the system works.

I have never had a problem with how it works and due to various circumstances I am on my third new car in two years.

I can only speculate. As the car has been allocated a registration number, and DGT will only register a vehicle if the IVTM has been paid, then that implies you're OK.

You're on the safe side. No one will ask you for proof of paid IMTVM. The bad news: the tax covers 6 months of this year (JUL-DMR) though you don't use the vehicle the entire period.
