Thanks BristolEnigma

We have a Humax 1100s in our holiday home and indeed a satellite dish probably the same size as yours.. I'm guessing that using the STB option we should be able to access those channels.

Unfortunately our Humax 'died' in Paris so we have a different Freesat model (not Humax) which doesn't seem to have the STB option.

Thanks we'll keep using the Humax until it stops!

Freesat boxes have a manual mode setting. This will do the same as the STB bit on Humax.

At the end you go back to Home and select the Back to Freesat option.

Yes unfortunately some Humax models have been plagued by this problem, I too have had this issue in the past, you are not alone by any means. I now use the most basic Humax freesat box along with an external hdd for recording (Humax HB-1000s Freesat HD). Whilst we don't watch a huge amount of TV whilst in Spain its always been helpful for my wife to keep up with her soaps on ITV and BBC (Coronation St & Eastenders'). However, as you mention if the service you require is still being broadcast from the Satellite your dish is aligned too then (a Humax possibly some others) in STB mode you should be able to view the desired channel/content.

We're back in Spain on 28th Feb, but when back I have to get up and tweak our dish as I noticed we'd lost a few channels since the last gales came through (we're fairly close to the coast). It's much colder atm in the UK so can't wait to get back to Spain (hopefully we won't bring the cold rain and overcast sky's back with us).

I think we'll be able to switch to STB in the humax box in Spain which hasn't broken down yet.

Will have to follow Marcliffs sdvice for the manual mode on new box in France.

From what I see weather in France is just as wet as in the UK. We can't wait to get bsck to drier weather next month.

Thanksfor your help

Thanks Marcliff we had a Humax box in Paris but it died a few months ago...So unfortunately we have a newer version of Freesat box.. I think we have Humax box in Spain so when we get back there I can see if I can do this : I do remember seeing this STB on it quite frequently and wasn't sure why!

I'll see whether I can get a non-Freesat box for France - I'll check with the company who set up the new Freesat box it's a 4K recordable 1TB box.....

...

thanks for your help

Can't you just go out for a couple of beers and talk to people.  I tried it and now couldn't be bothered with artificial landscapes.

Just seconding Bristol’s suggestion of IPTV if you have broadband. Mine is loaded on my firestick which i take around the world. I pay €7 a month for which i get several hundred tv channels including the Great channels as well as thousands of movies and series.

thanks Harvest but as we already have the freesat box there as well as a satellite we'll just stick with those til they stop working. As we're not there permanently we're trying to check out cheaper alternatives to Movistar for fibre..

Hi there we have Freesat in our home in France and in our holiday home in Alicante.. Yesterday I noticed that the 'Great tv' channels are gone from our Freesat here in France.. Was just wondering whether the same has happened to those channels in Spain?  Occasionally there used to be some go...

...od movies on the channels.

thanks

Hi, Guess I'm sharing my dissapointment in losing Freesat Channels.

I bought a 1TB FREESAT device as a upgrade for our satellite receiver in Rojales - my idea was to replace my older Fortram.... I'm now using both...

I was able to do some research (on this forum and Google), as such,I tuned / set-up my device on UK internet (we don't have Spain Internet in the villa - as we come here to experience Spain): but it wS a shock to see that Freesat is mostly old stuff.

Freesat is pretty useless: I wouldn't recommend wasting any money on it now - best buy Spain Internet.....

How can you waste money with Freesat when it is actually free? And I use a WD hard drive which can record from any of the services.

I agree it's great value for money. Have Freesat and only Skybox which still has the free movie channels that are no longer on freesat, can't record on Skybox because it has no card but still great.

Have similar card for French tv so we can watch news and rugby when on free channels
