Evening all

after a search and a wait spanning two years my wife and I finally concluded a property sale today, purchasing a property in El Raso. We are looking forward to coming out in the next few weeks, I suspect, given as I write we are in the midst of a yellow weather warning for significant snow and gale force winds across much of Scotland that we will find the weather slightly kinder!

I joined this forum a few months ago and have found it very helpful, often on topics that I had never considered before. In the coming weeks I will no doubt be asking about local running clubs and where to purchase a second hand mountain bike, although more important subjects may come to the fore.

kind regards

John J

Hi Welcome to the forum and more importantly welcome to El Raso. It’s a beautiful urbanisation with  a huge mix of nationalities, but I’m biased as I live here!

To us residents it’s  very cold here at the moment , the past few week has seen temperatures  drop  below 5C we’ve even had ice on the car a couple of mornings. However by midday  we have a beautiful blue sky and it’s warm enough to sit outside.   It’s always much warmer outside than inside at this time of year. So if you’re coming out in January or February you’ll still need your winter woolies.

I’m pretty sure that’s there’s a running club in Guardamar, but there are lots of other clubs and societies based from the bars in El Raso.

Second hand bikes can be purchased through this and the sister Talk Quesada Forum as well as Facebook Marketplace and there’s a fabulous bike shop in Calle los Arcos, Quesada.

Feel free to fire away any questions you may have on the area.

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

This week, we learned the sound our car makes when the ice warning is activated! ☺

The bike shop you're thinking of in Quesada is "Cycological".  There's also the "I Love Bike" shop on Calle Ramon y Cajal in Benijofar.

Kind regards,

Kim

A couple of websites that may be of help to you are as follows:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, but be aware that some towns have their own procedures and laws,

N332 for anjything to do with driving in Spain (including some items that refer to cyclists).   This site is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil.

Evening Lynn

thank you, much appreciated. Following your reply and others, I managed to find one of the bike shops online, similarly, a FB page on a running group in Guardamar.

regards

John

Welcome to El Raso, there's plenty to do here and in the area..

Hope you enjoy yourselves, and remember these houses feel very cold in the winter months, bring warm clothes !

If you want real Spanish food, take a walk to Manolos, just along the road from the roundabout that leads to El Raso. There are other cafe/bars and restaurants in El Raso too.

Thank you, much appreciated. We will certainly visit Manolo's, it is a place we have driven past several times in the past.
